This introductory series revisits fundamental concepts in sexology, ensuring that our understanding reflects current scientific advancements and diverse lived experiences.
This series is open to anyone interested in building a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of sexology, including:
● Professionals: Healthcare providers, educators, social workers, and anyone working in the field of sex and relationships.
● Individuals: People seeking to expand their knowledge and challenge their own biases related to sexuality.
Each session will focus on a core concept, with facilitated discussions on a relevant scientific journal article or book chapter. Readings will be provided upon registration, and attendees will receive additional resources.
Journal Club Dates:
o Assumptions – 19 March 2024: In this session we will explore the assumptions we enter the room with, and how they impact the ways we practice.
o Consent – 7 May 2024: How do we think of consent? How do we practice consent in the room? How is consent taught to diverse groups? These are some of the questions we will explore in this session.
o Pleasure and play – 25 June 2024: This session will focus on the role of pleasure and play in sexual and reproductive health, and explore how these concepts are used in current understandings of sexual and reproductive health.
o Aftercare and integration – 13 August 2024: In the final session we will explore the ways our assumptions have shifted over the course of the series, and discuss practical ways of applying our combined learnings.
