Our Mission
Since our founding, the Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA) has been dedicated to the provision and promotion of Sexual Health within the health care professions, and the development and advancement of sexual therapy, counselling and education. Our mission is to promote the most up to date, evidence based and highest standard of practice in Sexual Health Care.
While we are primarily dedicated to professional healthcare providers, we believe it is important to reach out to lay people and alternative communities who represent the full spectrum of sexual diversity within the population, in order to share ideas and promote Sexual Wellbeing for all.
Our Values
SASHA affirms the fundamental value of sexuality as an inherent, essential and beneficial dimension of what it means to be human. Furthermore, we support the WAS declaration of 2019, by extending our commitment to Sexual Health by promoting Sexual Pleasure as a central organising human motivation that can only be exercised within the context of sexual rights. This pre-supposes self-determination, consent, safety, privacy, bodily integrity, the ability to communicate and to negotiate sexual relations, and thus to contribute overall, to Sexual Health, Well-being and Human thriving.
SASHA recognizes the diversity in human sexual expression and potential, and the essential right to sexual freedom.
SASHA thus, opposes all psychological, social, cultural, legislative and government forces that would restrict, curtail or interfere with the fundamental values of sexual health and freedom.
Sasha also opposes all abuses of sexuality, including but not limited to, harassment, intimidation, coercion, prejudice, and the infringement of any individual’s sexual and civil rights.
